Playing catch up

It's been relatively quiet here in LJ land because it has been quite the opposite in real life. Here are just a few things that have been going on.

A few weeks ago my Uncle Joe ended up in the hospital for a week with what may or may not have been pneumonia. I went to see him and he was complaining about dizziness. The assisted living staff may or may not have been doing their jobs properly that day but it's hard to get it all straight because my uncle wasn't entirely coherent. He kept jumbling up the events of the day but one thing is certain and that is they gave orange juice and sugar tabs to him and he is diabetic. Now the kicker is they didn’t know he was diabetic even though he's lived there for almost a year and the rehab facility he had been in previously did know he was diabetic. Somehow that part of his file went missing when he was transferred. Now, his assisted living home knows he is diabetic and he got through his illness and is out of the hospital and back at his home but it was a scary week. And on top of all that, he's running out of money and we may have to apply for Medicaid soon. It’s always something.

While that was going on, I was helping Mom through the battery of appointments that are leading up to cataract surgery in both eyes. I have never thought of Mom as a particularly anxious woman. I'm beginning to think she saved it all up for her 77th year of life because she's been a massive ball of anxiety and stress since we've started making preparation for her surgery. I know she has a lot riding on these operations but it's been stressful while her anxiety manifests in peculiar and trying ways. Her surgeries are scheduled for November 5th and 26th and I just hope she gets the results she expects. It took us a while to find an eye surgeon who was willing to take a high risk patient like Mom but so far, it's all working out. The doctor we were referred to specializes in patients with diabetes like Mom so that's a plus. Still, I will be relieved when this is all behind us. I really hope this gives her some quality of life back.

In the midst of all that, I was prepping for the craft fair and that kept me pretty busy too. Also, we are gearing up for college tours and admissions for Bree and that is both exhilarating and terrifying.

On a personal front, I’ve been, for lack of a better way of describing it, going ten rounds with a bunch of very nasty brain weasels. I'm really not sure which the winning side is. I don't really want to get into it but sometimes life isn't going as well as it may seem to be and that is one hell of a wakeup call.

Off to a college meeting for Bree today (!!! really, where did the time go?!). Have a Happy Halloween and/or Thursday folks.
