I actually did a lot of reading in 2024...however the majority of it (in terms of time as well as content) was reading the Bible, as part of the Bible-in-a-year program I subscribed to in mid-January 2024- at the general insistence of our pastor. Our microwave broke. It had a pretty good run; it lasted at least 7 years, and was bought 2nd-hand for $75. Getting a replacement will be...maybe easy, since Black Friday is right around the corner? One can hope, anyway ( Read more... )

Today there was a letter in the mail from the Commissary Department which said, in brevity, that I was invited to visit the Tinker Commissary and buy stuff. Along with the letter was a coupon for $25 off a purchase of $100 or more. Dad called me yesterday to chat for a bit: it sounds to me like he has a lot more energy and life in his voice than I heard out of him before he started physical rehab. Maybe that's because of the rehab; maybe it's because he's been forced to realize his impending* mortality and wants to get more out of life; maybe it's from being free of smoking ( Read more... )

I like writing (and reading!) long journal entries...but, they do have their downsides: they take longer to prepare, more concentration and effort is required in order to make them more comprehensive, and (at least for me) the more time I spend preparing to "launch" an entry, the more I feel like I need to incrementally add before it can be posted ( Read more... )
