Today there was a letter in the mail from the Commissary Department which said, in brevity, that I was invited to visit the Tinker Commissary and buy stuff. Along with the letter was a coupon for $25 off a purchase of $100 or more. I guess there's no reason not to go, eventually...and now I wonder what kind of hoops I'll have to jump through in order to get Amy to go on base (with me the first time, and then maybe by herself on future trips, if possible) in these times.
My gym attendance has continued to be steady; I have gone the Saturday I enrolled, Monday, and Wednesday, with a tentative plan to go both on Friday and Saturday. As with most things in life, commitment is the key. Last night I was planning to do 45 minutes on the elliptical but talked myself down to 30 minutes because of how late it was. I burned about 330 calories (but I don't know the exact number because the machine display shuts off as soon as it loses enough power, which happens to be almost immediately after you stop working on the machine).
Earlier that day the "director of training" contacted me offering a free ($150 value...?) consultation about my fitness goals, so I scheduled a visit for Monday afternoon. I openly said I would like to get my weight down to 168 (10 pounds lower than my before-my-birthday goal), which is sort of my bare minimum. My shoot-for-the-stars goal would be to get to the point where I look like a hot stud, enough to impress Amy at least, but perhaps it'd be easier to achieve that by regressing back in time and becoming my post-2007-Marathon-completion self.
I just got a really bad idea, like "this is stupid and will probably hurt you" idea, which as you can probably guess, is "train for a Marathon again." The time and effort investment alone is probably recklessly unrealistic, so don't be surprised if I never mention this again except in passing. That *was* almost 18 years ago, after all.
The kids have started playing a new Roblox game, called Fishing Simulator. This is a unique occurrence, because *I* was the one who found the game, tried it out, and recommended it to them. Yeah I know, it's a Roblox game- but it's fun, and not totally stupid! If nothing else they're getting more familiar with the types of fish and other sea creatures you can find in the ocean, so I'm considering it an overall win.
Remember that book I've had for years and started reading in earnest...over a year ago? I am almost done with it; about 30 pages to go. More on that when I actually finish it. I think tomorrow will finally be the day. =P
On a related note, I think I'm going to bring hardback or other large books with me to read while I'm doing elliptical (or any other machine that can support it), as most of the TVs are constantly showing retarded garbage, and many of the gym attendees are not fun to look at- not that I'm staring at them like I'd stare at a TV, but I'm definitely pinging them long enough to assess a) whether or not they're attractive, and b) whether they'd be more attractive if they had zero (visible) tattoos...the answer to the latter is frequently "yes," but not always. 0_o
We crew of three were assigned to work at another location to finish out the rest of the week; the place we were working at yesterday is as close to 100% as it can be without actually completing a turnover inspection, so we were sent to another job that our host company has open. It's a renovation job about three miles north of city, on the 3rd floor of a building that has functional A/C and working indoor bathrooms. You can imagine my joy. The day was busy and productive, yet relaxed.
I have read from many sources that Israel has said they'll strike Iran's oil infrastructure, which could globally affect gas prices. So, it's a good time to top off your gas tank: I paid $2.49/gal for gas at Sam's yesterday, on the way to the gym after I was finished at the lab for the day. It was time well spent, even if prices don't end up surging.
As is often the case, more to say later.
God is good. That is all.
