Work do was held in a windowless underground room. About forty people there, including six of us library staff. Luckily, I had a prior engagement with the softball team.
The Loan Wolves Xmas do was good. We had a meal at a Thai restaurant. I had some beef jungle curry - very hot - with coconut rice. Richard, Kate and Manjiv had drawn up awards for everybody. A lot of them were joky - Ben got one for "best use of a plastic bag to avoid getting muddy", Richard got one for "captaincy while tucked up in bed", after the time he missed a training session because he overslept. Alison, a consistently good player (with an incredible throwing arm) got "Most Valuable Wolf". My citation says; "for conspicuous bravery and devotion to his team in soldiering on after sustaining a life threatening injury to his finger". It's true - my finger could have died!
The restaurant had put out crackers for us all, which contained rocket balloons, streamers and party poppers. This led to a bizarre party-related injury - Jane's party-popper backfired, splitting open and burning her hand. Thankfully, that was the only injury of the night.
After the meal, we went to the
Camden Head - it was a mild evening, and they had an outdoor heater, so we sat at a table outside and chatted. I think everyone had a good night - a good start to what could be a fun annual tradition.
Today, I went to
wascally_weasel's place. After a late breakfast at the Red Lion, we did a bit of left-handed swordfighting, mostly with wasters, as I still shouldn't use my right. Then Iain, Bryony & I took a walk by the river.
I bumped into Nick from the old
UC team on the train on the way home. He'd been playing rugby in Barnes. He said he'd be coming along to my birthday do next week.
I've been doing my physio exercises - no noticeable improvement overnight, but they are quite painful so they must be doing me good.
