Bats and barbecues

Early start yesterday as I headed to Richmond Old Deer Park for Superball 2010. The journey was delayed by having to find an alternate route after some poor soul went under a train at Richmond. I arrived in time to join the batting line up for our first match, against our friends the Meteors. An enjoyable game which we lost 12-9. then onto the next match - the schedule was full with only a short lunch break. We went on to face the Dazzlers, the Mob and Comer's Homers, then the Voodoos. Sadly, we lost each time despite some good performance. To be fair, they're pretty much all higher division sides with good batting and some very sharp fielding.
I missed our play off final for fifth place, setting off to West London to rendezvous with inkognitoh and other Renegades as I'd been invited to a boat barbecue. I arrived a little ahead of the boat contingent, so I had a sit down in a comfy chair for the first time all day and a pint at a pub while they steamed up from Camden. Alarmingly, the pub had a great big Weeping Angel statue in the corner. I stared at it without blinking, and escaped unscathed. And while at the pub I learned that the Loan Wolves had managed to win the play-off, narrowly beating the Voodoos after a tie-break extra innings.
Soon the boat arrived and we stocked up on food and drink, scavenged firewood from the canalside for tinder and kindling, and fired up the barbecue. Excellent evening of warm weather, fine food, good company and some excellent music from Absolute 80s. We spotted a barn owl in the twilight, which was cool. Nightbuses returned me safely home, and I crawled into my bed. Woke up to find a bruised and battered knee I can't remember injuring. I assume it was from the softball rather than the party.
