So I guess I'm the first one to post then. Hi falafel!

Haha I hear ya on the Breaking Bad front, it really is crazy how that show devoured my year. I will never forget making the mistake of watching Tohajiilee at 1:30am in the morning the second it went up on iTunes and then staring blankly at the roof until dawn when I tried to go to sleep afterwards. I was pretty much shell shocked at work every Monday during the month of September xP ( ... )

I totally blame BrBa for ruining my Goodreads challenge. Like I couldn't read books while that show was eating my brain and I had so many BrBa blogs to read anyway. Oh and my meta posts to write. And yes, my September Mondays were screwed up too. I'd also spend the day at work worrying over people who don't exist.

Black Mirror is a dark future show with a different warped scenario every episode largely based around modern media and smartphone culture. It's written by Charlie Brooker who interviewed Vince Gilligan at the TV festival in Edinburgh this year. So it's written by a BrBa fan!

Like I've said, I think tumblr is a great platform for artists. But well, I'm not an artist. As a writer I find it very unsatisfying. I expect that most tumblr users skim over written posts and even if they do respond, a like or a reblog is not half as pleasing/personal as a written response that you get on LJ.

I think Breaking Bad pretty much ruined my life last fall, but I regret nothing. The final eight episodes were definitely one of the most intense TV experiences that I have ever had.

Written by a BrBa fan eh? Definitely checking it out :D

Hmm, I'm not even sure that Tumblr is a great platform for artists though. As much as it happened all the time, adding something to your favourites without commenting was generally frowned upon on Deviantart, so much so that the site runners even added in an automatic prompt about commenting. I've also run across quite a bit of my old fanart on Tumblr being reposted without credit (or in one case, with someone else claiming they drew it) and it is frighteningly difficult to keep track of your work with all the reposting and reblogging D:

Exactly! If you have created something that you worked really hard like your gorgeous artwork then you deserve actual comments not just impersonal reblogs. And don't get me started on people taking credit for other artists work. Grrr that is just so rude and obnoxious!

I don't think creative posts get the attention they deserve on Tumblr. I only use Tumblr to pimp my creative stuff which I post elsewhere but my fic and vid pimping posts don't get very many notes at all.

Then there's a Tumblr post where I just posted two screencaps of Bryan and Aaron from the BrBa documentary (linked below). 18,000 notes and rising daily. For something I put together in about 5 minutes. It seems like it's the short attention span image sharing is the main thing that gets any notice.Reply

So I'll have you know, Falafel, that while I haven't acted on it yet, I've made the decision to check out Breaking Bad, based on your reply to my comment a while back about it. :)

I'd been on the fence about Moonrise Kingdom and thus never got around to checking it out, but now I'll give it a second look, because it featured a lot of actors I love in funny looking outfits that made me curious.

You know, I have never read American Gods either, and I keep getting really close to reading it over and over. Good to know it's a brain-eater.

Speaking of Neil Gaiman (and Amanda Palmer), random factoid: I went to a Weird Al Show in my hometown, and who was there a few rows ahead but Mr. Gaiman and Ms. Palmer themselves. Pretty cool and just about the last place I expected to see those two people.

For graphic sharing, yeah it's fine. But as a place for fandom? Hate it. I can't make friends on Tumblr. I can't have discussions on Tumblr. I can't create anything of substance that anyone will care to respond to on Tumblr. So yeah...I miss ( ... )

This is incredibly fantastic news! You must share your thoughts with me once you get started. I'm like a vampire when it comes to feeding off new viewers reacting to the show for the first time. You won't regret it. I mean, this show may ruin all other TV for you but you still won't regret it.

Agh! Great Neil and Amanda sighting. I've seen them both separately at shows at the Edinburgh festival but I'd love to see them together. American Gods is quite a reading experience. In some ways it's a tough read because it has a very meandering narrative structure but I just got absorbed by the world and the writing style.

I loved Moonrise Kingdom but then I love all Wes Anderson movies and MK is probably the most 'WesAndersony' of all Wes Anderson movies, so I just had to love it.

when I want to look at pictures of Tom Hiddleston, I enjoy Tumblr just fine. Agreed if you just want an instant fix of a favourite actor, character ( ... )

I can't create anything of substance that anyone will care to respond to on Tumblr. So yeah...I miss livejournal based fandom because it feels like there aren't many of us left here :( Yeah, I still do not really understand how communication works on Tumblr. Reblogging and asks are so clumsy! UGH

fun fact: I had a brief moment of internet fame in 2002 when I made a website about American Gods and Neil Gaiman linked to it from his blog. Also I went to the 10th Anniversary party for American Gods at the House on the Rock. Definitely a book of my heart!

Oh wow! What an honor. Is your website still online?

You know Neil said on this new live album that he'll be writing a new book with Shadow this year. So excited! And I hear they are talking about a TV adaptation too.

PS. Got your Hank fic and can't wait to read it. I have got New Year stuff but after that I just have a quiet few days before having to get back to school. I'll beta tomorrow sometime. Where are you going on your travels?

It is still online, though I haven't updated it in years and it's not very impressive by 2013 internet standards. Still I can't resist bragging about it occasionally, because... Neil Gaiman talked about me on his blog, omg. Only the Gods Are RealYes, I'm excited for the new novel! There is also a Shadow novella that got collected in some anthology. (I just looked it up--it's called "Monarch of the Glen" and it's in his anthology Fragile Things, though when I read it it was before Fragile Things came out and it was in some Best of Fantasy multi-author anthology.) Anyway, I remember it being good, if you're looking for more Shadow adventures ( ... )

BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD!

I loved that move and watched it a couple of times. :-)

I think LJ folks are still here. Not as much, but here. Many are just focusing on RL stuff and well, there just isn't a big and awesome unifying fandom for us.

I'm watching season 4 of Mad Men as I type. I think it flows very well if you just watch the series all in on sitting. But . . . the whole DVD series was available at the library and always is. Hmm. That says . . . something.

ETA: I hear the 7th season is the last one anyway. ;-)

Beasts of the SW is a gorgeous film. I need to watch it again.

Yeah, if old LJ posters haven't switched to Tumblr it tends to be they've moved to facebook or just reduced internet because they have grown up, got real lives now and don't do fandom stuff anymore. It makes me feel so immature.

Mad Men S4 was my fave season! The new agency really refreshed the format. However in S5 and especially S6 I felt like they were falling into old patterns again. It just started to feel like the show has nothing new to offer and just keeps retreading old ground, especially with Don's sex life.
