Since i KNOW i have a ton of authors and cooks on my flist:

there is a fund raiser to help cover some folks medical bills
the people involved are connected to literature, fandom, etc. details at the link.

owing to various reasons, it was decided that a cookbook was a "good thing tm" (well, we fannish folks do eat)
