I've gone back to the concept of a herb garden. My last attempt resulted in a bunch of dead plants because I have a black thumb like that. But now? Ha ha ha ... let's try again!

I keep intending to do The Big Update, but that post keeps not happening. So I'll do a mini-update instead.

1. EM Jr - My boy is about to turn 3! His birthday party is tomorrow. ( potty, lack of update )

Summary: This was an awesome expedition, though even with 3 grown-ups, it was hard to both tour & toddler-herd. It is a bit spendy: $30 for adults (I found a 20% off coupon but still - not cheap) and the café is rip-off priced ($12 for a Vietnamese noodle salad that would cost less than $7 at a Vietnamese restaurant ( Read more... )

I went to see the SJ ICA last week during a lunch break (I had a work assignment downtown). This is a small facility that features often-changing exhibitions from various artists. The price is right - FREE! - and the staff is friendly. I wasn't wild about the 2 current exhibitions but would gladly come back to see what's on display. This is one ( Read more... )

The San Jose Museum of Art is not a world class institution but it does have some really nice modern stuff. The entry, for example, features super-enlarged pix of semiconductor factory scenes, plus stroboscope pix by Harold Edgerton, including the famous one of the apple as a bullet is passing through it.

Summary: The Oakland Museum may not be world class but it's a proper museum, focused on California history & California artists. Depending on your tastes, it might not be worth $12 and the drive to Oakland, but I really enjoyed the visit ( Read more... )

I had a little extra time to kill before I had to do some work at the Stanford campus, so I took a walk through Stanford's art museum.

Summary: the price is right (free!) but it's not world class. There are a few pretty pieces, but most of the European pieces (with the exception of the Rodin collection) are by C-list artists or are lesser works ( Read more... )
