Local tourism: Stanford Art Museum

Jan 21, 2011 22:06

I had a little extra time to kill before I had to do some work at the Stanford campus, so I took a walk through Stanford's art museum.

Summary: the price is right (free!) but it's not world class. There are a few pretty pieces, but most of the European pieces (with the exception of the Rodin collection) are by C-list artists or are lesser works by A & B-list painters.

Dutch nobleman in a red scarf

Genre painting of travelers to America - I loved the beautiful light

Genre painting of Breton girls, by Bouchereau

Miniature sculpture of a dancer by Degas

Tiny painting by Georgia O'Keefe

Picture by the surrealist Man Ray

Woodcut of an oak tree - I loved the strong graphics

Mobile - not sure whether it's by Calder or just Calderesque

Thiebaud - I'm a sucker for the cakes!

This picture reminded me of SEM imagery artworks
