Mini-update

I keep intending to do The Big Update, but that post keeps not happening. So I'll do a mini-update instead.

1. EM Jr - My boy is about to turn 3! His birthday party is tomorrow. There has been zero - even negative - progress on the potty training front. He'll sit on his little potty, but that's just an excuse to play games on my iPhone. Nothing desirable happens while he's there ... and he'll usually punk us by soaking his diaper 5 minutes after it has been put back on. *facepalm* If anyone reading this has any resource recommendations (or tips), let me know.

2. I just started volunteering. I'll be doing a weekly session at the Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic institute. My first training session went OK - I acted as producer for a reader recording an art history textbook. This meant I got to apply the "marks" separating one page from another and back up whenever she made a mistake, then stop at a pause point so she could re-record.

3. Although I did stay home with EM Jr all day & begin mad preparations for tomorrow's party, it was actually a quite good, productive day. He was reasonably well behaved during all of our errands and went down for his nap promptly & without protest. He slept for an extended period of time, allowing me to attack areas of the house that desperately needed to be decluttered.

I also made some progress on a new project of mine, guided by the book Get It Together: Organize Your Records So Your Family Won't Have To (~$7 on Ebay, if you're curious: ISBN 1413309097). This was a resolution I undertook in the wake of a friend's death, where her spouse was left to settle her affairs without the benefit of a will. So making a will is on my list, but it also made sense to pull together my various papers and prepare an advance health care directive (aka living will). Thinking about end-of-life issues isn't fun but I think it will feel very virtuous to get all this stuff organized. I'm perfectly healthy now, but what if a meteor falls on my head, you know?
