Our snow may be sticking around for a while, about which I'm very happy. The freezing weather has stuck a great deal of snow and ice to the trees in town, which is startlingly beautiful, especially now that we have sunlight to make the branches sparkle, but probably isn't especially good for the trees. We made it through Christmas Eve and Christmas, and they weren't awful. There is, as N says, a hole in everything, but having accepted that, there was room for some genuinely good moments. It's snowing. In June. That is all.

Classes were canceled at WSU today, due to extreme weather (snow, snow, snow). This is the first time classes have been canceled here since Mt. St. Helen's blew her top. It's been snowing all day - heavy falls of many tiny flakes, falls of slush, a little fall of rain, a slow fall of big fluffy flakes, and now a steady fall of middle-sized flakes all lit up by streetlights. My life seems to be especially brilliant, exciting, and frightening right now. Things are happening that I can't control (as they always do, but right now my lack of control is especially noticeable). Yesterday it "slushed" a little - really wet snow that doesn't stick to the ground. This morning, however, there's a thin blanket of white over everything, and the tree branches are all coated with it, which highlights their shape, and calls attention to gnarls and patterns of twigs that I never see without the snow. It's snowing like mad here, the soft, wet flakes that fall soft and straight and touch your cheek like a kiss if you turn your face towards them. The trees have taken on the shapes and textures of beaded crystal ornaments and all is white, white, white under the waning moon.
