ridge trail today

Candy and I had a lovely 6 mile hike. It wasn't supposed to be that long of a hike but on the way back I noticed an unmarked trail heading off into the woods. I get energized when I see a trail I haven't been on before. I'm very grateful that Candy is a willing hiker. At the time we saw the trail I was looking forward to getting back to the car - with just another mile to go. But we ended up going 2 extra miles off into new unexplored places. Pictures:

What do you expect when you just have one screw right in the very center holding the sign on?

Orange fan.

Picturesque bridge.

Climbing the steep hill on the other side of the bridge.

Through the mountain laurels.

Mossy interlude.

Big Rock.

These puff balls were neat. And what's that gooey stuff? I wanted to touch one to see what it felt like - hard or soft? This is what happened:

This is a place where the far hillside exposes a lot of big rocks that you can see across a little valley.

A tree with rings.

Old crinkly fungus.

Organic rock.

A cushioned stump.

Red and gold.
