This morning I went to the pond early. As I drove in I saw this beautiful male Wood Duck sitting on a rock on the bank. I thought maybe he was still sleeping or just waking up, or maybe just drowsy in the warm sun. He looked so cute all curled up in a little compact package. The day started out with a phone call from a friend who walks in the neighborhood everyday. About an hour before he had seen a mother duck and her ducklings in a retention pond just a few blocks from my house. I grabbed my camera and jumped in the car and drove there. No ducks anywhere.

The rest of the day I put behind the cut.

Went down to the pond to check on things. Everything is as it was yesterday. I talked to several, and got mixed reactions. Some were very complacent about the whole thing and just shrugged their shoulders; some said it was too bad, but the law of nature; and one very sweet older volunteer named Cleo felt just like I do. If you’ve read my posts before, you probably know about the two ducks, “Waddles and WooWoo,” who have lived at the Botanical Park pond since I’ve been going there. Early Sunday morning Tracy, Maria and I went to the Bradenton Herald where Tracy works. There is a pond and some wooded area behind the building, and she told me recently that a mother duck had 13 babies and how cute they were ( Read more... )

Sunday morning after breakfast, Maria and I went to the botanical park.

Right off the bat we spotted Waddles and WooWoo on the opposite bank preening and taking their morning bath. They are such sweet ducks.

We are still having some pleasant cooler days, but I have a feeling this is about the end of it, and soon it will be much warmer.

Right now the Jacaranda trees are in their glory. As I drove and walked around this morning I took a few pictures of them.
