Cardinals have always been frequent visitors to our yard, birdbaths and feeders. We were in the midst of changing poles for one of the feeders and Pete didn’t get the job done by end of day, so the pole stood feederless the next morning. Here is one young cardinal....a bit confused by it all.

It was beautiful this morning, so I sat outside under the oaks with my coffee and called my sister. Soon the brightest red cardinal I ever saw flew into the yard. He first landed only a few feet from me, so I don't think he saw me. Darn, if I didn't have my camera! When I finished talking, I went in and got it and he soon came back. ( 4 pictures here )

Thank you to my LJ friend gurdonark for the correct bird ID -- without even seeing the bird! I had only written here earlier that I thought a Black Capped Chickadee visited Laurie’s feeder, and he graciously said it might be a Carolina Chickadee. I invited some artist friends over on Monday for the “light and breezy” garden brunch. The weather was so perfect, mid 80s with low humidity and a light breeze going on all day. We ate outside and spent pretty much the whole time under the patio canopy and the shade of the oak trees. We had a delightful time talking about our art and sharing ( Read more... )

A tiring day and I am exhausted. I worked at the gallery all day and it was very busy. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. it was non stop. After 2:00 no one, so Debra and I ate lunch and visited until 5:00. Took almost an hour to get home with the heavy traffic. I sold at the gallery and also got orders for several framed prints from a doctor who was ( Read more... )

Cardinal dive . . .
I really like this picture. It was almost a throwaway, but when I looked closer and could see his beak and part of his little head through some of the leaves I knew it was a keeper. This was early morning and the sun was hitting on the bird feeder making it all aglow. I saw the cardinal fly and then start to go for a landing ( Read more... )
