Hi, Everybody! I'm in need of some advice. Before I begin, here's some background information on my boy: Rudy is an almost 6-year-old miniature schnauzer. He was rescued from a puppy mill a year and a half ago, and we have had him a little over a year.

My 6-7 month old dog has recently stopped playing. He used to fetch, play tug-of-war, liked his toys...etc. Now, he'll only play with something if food is involved, like Kong toys for example, but he's not playing so much as snacking. I've always found the differing opinions on tug-of-war between owners/trainers interesting.

So, that leads me to my question. Do you play tug with your dogs? What are your rules for playing tug-of-war? Do you feel like playing tug causes problems with your dog? Would you recommend it?

Today, at the dog park, Zevi, my 10 month-old, 20lb Schnauzer-ACD mix met a Black Labrador Retriever and a Weimaraner, who were each around 2 years old. Zevi is very outgoing and spunky, and he likes playing with dogs that are bigger than him. He grew up playing primarily with a 40lb Kelpie mix. I was walking my dogs off lead in my local park recently and decided to play some tug games with them. They're both GSDxCollie's and they adore tug of war. I have them both trained to "grab" when told while the other waits, to "pull more" when asked and to "let go" when told.
