So, Vividcon happened!
Gazillions of vids were shown at this con, and I'm reccing only a few of the vids I most enjoyed, or thought were interesting. This should not be construed to mean I didn't like the vids I haven't recced here, since if I listed all the vids I liked or enjoyed, it would take all day. Also, I didn't go to as many vid shows this year, and I still have oh so many vids to track down and watch.
Vids are listed by show. If a dl link isn't yet available, I'll add it later, or you can simply consult the awesome
master list of vidshows for links.
Non-Attending Premieres:
Love Letter by
kuwdora - Lilo and Stitch. FUCKING ADORABLE.
Gravity by ghost-lingering - Farscape. All about Moya and Talyn.
I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks by
obsessive24 - The vid itself was funny and enjoyable, tho I perceive an undertone of mockery as pertains to SPN fandom, which may or may not be your cup of tea; it's a double-edged sword.
For Your Entertainment by
dualbunny - This vid should be ridiculous in the extreme, and yet it's sort of dark and violent and awsome. All about Chief Tyrol. Huh. Way to subvert the expectations.
Hold On Tight by
gwyn_r - Ratatoiulle. Adorable vid; sweet as hell, and left me feeling very happy.
Club Vivid:
Bad Romance by
sisabet - an extremely awesome Superman/Lex Luthor vid, using various types of source.
Get Back by
cappylicious - An examination of the badassery of Uther Pendragon.
The Last Firstborn by
bananainpyjamas - Appleseed. I have no idea what this source is about, but I loved the vid, so I can't wait to find out.
Unusual Point of View:
Lend Me Your Teeth by
greensilver - Doctor Who 2005. I was like, WHAT IS THAT MOVIE I MUST SEE IT. And then it turned out to be Doctor Who. Unbelievably freaky and creepy.
Premieres:
Hateful by
mlyn - White Collar. Not the kind of White Collar vid I usually see, which is to say, it's lovely, but complicated, to some extent.
Around the Bend by
danegen - A gorgeous, upbeat tribute to women who drive fast cars and fly fast ships. I loved it for the fannish context, and also because the vidder interspersed pictures of women of many generations and eras with the source. They were there before us. Just wonderful.
Stay Awake by
laurashapiro - multi. Not what I'd call a nice or pleasant vid, but a thought-provoking one, showing a pattern of treatment of female characters across numerous shows.
2020 by
kudwora - Spartacus Blood and Sand. A heavily context-dependent vid with an unusual and very contemporary song choice.
Narrow Escape by
jarrow - multi (disaster movies). Heh, loved this vid; it's cheesy disaster movie porn, and it's delicious. (Great use of motion, too.)
Bother by
bananainpyjamas - Watchmen. I've seen a lot of Watchmen vids, but this is the first to really capture what I think is important about the movie and comic. The Watchmen are anti-heroes, alienated from society, and their arcs are tragic or unpleasant; this vid puts the viewer firmly in that place and explores it. Wonderful song choice.
Watershed by
astolat - Merlin. A Morgana vid that's not all about her pretty angst; instead, it's about her reclaiming her power. I loved it.
Because I'm Awesome by
anoel - Glee. Hahaha, Kurt IS awesome. Yes.
Things Have Changed by
greensilver - Angel. The world has seen too few Wesley vids recently. Greensilver fixes that for you.
Wading Deep Water by
barkley - Southland. An absolutely gorgeous, moving Lydia vid, which explores her world and her connection to others inside of it.
The Boy King by
jmtorres - Supernatural. This vid pokes fun at the extreme angst of SPN at the same time it's giving a hilarious treatment to the angst and plot of the last couple seasons.
I Can't Hear The Music by
settiai - Deep Space Nine. Kai Winn, as she spirals down. I was really pleased to see a DS9 vid in Premieres!
Verb: That's What's Happening - Star Trek 2009. Carol S brings the Schoolhouse Rock treatment to Kirk and company. Hilarious.
Challenge:
Tandemonium by
jarrow - BSG. A meta-indictment of Ron Moore's handling of the show. Angry BSG fans, this is the vid for you.
On The Prowl by
sisabet and
sweetestdrain, I think (I'm sure someone will correct me if I got that wrong) - multi. All about the fannish gaze, and how we torture, hurt and objectify our male BSOs. I LOVED THIS VID. The end.
Nearly New (note - most of these have been around for a while, so I'm just linking to stuff I plan to watch again often):
Cut by
wiliqueen - Being Human. All about Lauren Drake, and very poignant.
The Pirate Song by
flummery. Crusoe. Never seen the show, but this worked well for me as a recruiter vid.
Lullaby for a Stormy Night by
barkley - Sound of Music. Half the attendees of this vid show were crying when this vid ended, for good reason.
Crazy In Love by
cappylicious and
sisabet - Merlin. You wouldn't think it would work, but it does.
Lightning Field by
bradcpu - Legend of the Seeker.
Railway House by
greensilver - Torchwood, Jack/Ianto. Sad farewells.
Fading by
bananainpyjamas - Terminator Salvation.
