So I caved and downloaded the 30-day trial of Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 (try saying that five times fast) and made myself an Amarant icon. It took all day for me to decide that it only needed three layers; I spent most of the afternoon trying different text and claw-mark effects, all of which looked heinous and so I dumped them.
