Just have to say it...
Zidane. Is. So. Fucking. CUTE. ♥ (Wish I had an icon of him in his alternate costume. Navy blue suits him beautifully.) If he was real I would give him a huge hug and then make him cookies. And quite possibly muss his hair.
Finally freaking got to his story mode in Dissidia. He's the sixth character I've played as (100% completion with Cecil, Cloud, Firion, Tidus, and Squall so far) despite the fact that I really wanted to play as him from the start. His story's 3-star difficulty though so I didn't want to die horribly while I was learning how to play.
Not that it's remotely a surprise, but he's definitely my favorite character. Not just because I love his personality and (have grown to love) his voice acting, but because his fighting technique is way too friggin' fun for its own good. Friends who got to his part before me warned me that "all he's good for is aerial combat" but y'know... that's what I LIKE! So it's a win-win for me.
One of the things I love about him most that puts him above most of the other FF protagonists for me (although Squall and Tidus are quite close behind) is the fact that he's so happy all the time that when he actually DOES have his tiny angst moments, I can actually feel bad for him. It's very hard for me to feel bad for Cloud, because all he does is mope. Squall, I just laugh at in a "lighten up, you dork" kind of way. Tidus, I feel bad for when he angsts, too, but because he has that whole crybaby reputation preceding him, I expected him to angst eventually. Zidane's angst is sudden and unexpected and hits me hardest for that reason.
So Zidane's interactions with Squall make me go "d'aww" aloud and now I'm convinced they're BFFs and *flails incoherently* they're just so fucking adorable!
First of all, I squee'd like an utter dork when Zidane tackled Garland and saved Squall's ass from having to fight him and Ultimecia at the same time. Just... ♥ And then Squall's reaction to his showing up, and then grudgingly admitting that he actually gives a crap, and how he has faith in Zidane's fighting abilities... gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah they're so cute! I would pay good money to see them brofist. Seriously.
Although the height difference between them is really freaking weird to me since they're supposed to be around the same age. o.O; I know it was because IX's art style was kind of on the cartoon-y side but damn.
Not Zidane-specific, but I think what I love most about this game is the fact that it gives a really good impression of what all of these characters would have fought like if they hadn't been restricted to ATB format back in the day (which was a Wednesday). The fighting is all in real-time, and it's incredibly dynamic. It's also incredibly good fanfic fodder; writing fight scenes is going to be so much more fun now that I have a realistic impression of what it'd actually look like in their world. :D
Although really I think I'm getting a little obsessed with using the rail-grinding Quickmoves. Sliding around through the air on Colorful Magic Light TrailsTM is just far too cool and I am far too easily entertained.
