Tonight, my team plays in round 1 of the playoffs. I have very high expectations that we'll make the finals, and win the whole thing. Which will be great because I'd love to win a championship while playing on the field with both Austin and Christina on it with me.

After 12 years playing softball for Penguin, then 12 years coaching Christina and Austin, I've been playing softball the past couple of years for the Writers House (literary agency) softball team. Just came home from the big Game of Thrones night at Richmond County Bank Park, where the Staten Island Yankees play.  Tonight, they became the Staten Island Direwolves, playing against the Lannister Lions (nee Hudson Valley Renegades).  George R.R. Austin's team had a game last night, but the other team failed to show, so we gave the boys batting practice.  Austin put one out of the park in left center, about 280 feet.  One of the other boys hit one that was still going up when it hit a building behind the field - easily a 400 foot shot if it hadn't hit the building ( Read more... )

I'm bummed out right now.  They've just announced that the New York Islanders, for whom I have been rooting since I was 10, are officially moving from Long Island to Brooklyn.  Yes!  Brooklyn now has a professional hockey team!  And it's my team ( Read more... )
