I'm bummed out right now.  They've just announced that the New York Islanders, for whom I have been rooting since I was 10, are officially moving from Long Island to Brooklyn.  Yes!  Brooklyn now has a professional hockey team!  And it's my team!

But... they are moving into the newly built Barclay Center.  This abomination on the Brooklyn landscape was built at the cost of hundreds of existing homes and businesses, all to line the pockets of the developer Forest City Ratner, Jay-Z, and likely the Brooklyn Borough President as well.  It's a project that I have opposed since the day they announced it.  I swore that I would never attend any event held there.  I don't follow basketball, so I wouldn't be attending any Brooklyn Nets games, but I'd be missing out on a lot of major concerts.

Now, they will be the home ice for my favorite NHL team.  Austin's favorite NHL team, too.  ARRRGGGHHH!!!!

Granted, I've only ever been to one professional hockey game, when Austin gave me two tickets to an Islander game earlier this year.  So, if past performance is any indicator, this may not be an issue for another 36-46 years.  Either way it sucks - compromise my principles, or miss out on enjoying my favorite team with my son.

Just makes me hate Forest City Ratner all the more.
