AMC--Chapter Twenty-Seven

Dec 06, 2005 14:42

I'm going to try to keep this short, for once.

I'm going to rate the chapter for general audiences, although there are some mild mentions of sexuality.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Thank you for reading!

(Oh, and Friday's posting: Feanaro's PoV. Eru help us all....)

And this, boys and girls, is why people take classes in and get advanced degrees in pedagogy and music education. Macalaurë sounds to me like he needs to get his butt off to that conservatory in Alqualondë or wherever it is real quick. For all his imaginings about playing duets with Findekano, he is very much a soloist by training. But it seems like he wants to become an ensemble player, and he's got to go off and learn the skills for that. It might also be good for him to be around people who love music the way he does. It's no wonder he's so depressed and out of it all the time. He and his family are on completely different wavelengths, and they don't really seem interested in exploring his aural world the way they expect him to explore their visual and physical one ( ... )

He does, somewhere near the end of the story. Then you're welcome to tear apart my music education bit (which will be somewhat improved with the information you've already given me) because I'm sure it's going to be....

We'll just leave it as a surprise, actually!

So Nelyo's getting ready to pop the question, is he? Given what we know of his later life, the outcome of this is going to be spectacular.

I hope so. It's kind of my own non-canon subplot. I'm incredibly amazed that no one has complained about the sheer volume of non-canon subplots in this story....

*waits for tomatoes*

although I thought that the beginning part of his conversation with Fëanor in the final scene came off sounding a little bit like a Valley Girl.Eek! Will have to work on that! I don't think that dialogue is one of my strong suits ( ... )

*raises hand* I LOVE the non-canon subplots! It gives the story a warmth and a kind of personal touch that just telling the "known" events would lack. It makes the characters deeper and more believable, and besides, the subplots are *interesting* and *cool* :D :D

Behold, Eni hath spoken! ;p

Once again you've written the interaction between Maglor and Feanor very well. Maglor's and Maedhros's different opinions on the nature of love were also very interesting, but somewhat overshadowed for me because I suddenly got scared while I was reading that bit that you're going to get around the 'appeared' thing by killing off Annawende. Ridiculous speculation, I know, but I really hope that you don't - she's a great character!

Oh, and I could say something about the non-canon subplots, but what's the point? With the tiny amount about the Feanorians in the Silm anyway, and practically nothing pre-oath except about Feanor himself, they were always going to need more story about them in a fic four times as long as the Silm for only one year of their lives.

It will be another week before you all get to learn how Nelyo's proposal went. Friday's chapter is Feanor, and he remains clueless about Nelyo's plans until the very end. Actually, Feanor might have two chapters--I can't remember--so it might be a week-and-a-half.

However, I am very flattered that my OFC is worth worrying about. OFCs are scary to write, for me anyway. That goes for fanfic and original fic, incidentally, which is especially weird considering that original fic has only OFCs!

Well it isn't as if you're going to kill off any of the Feanorians, so I have to worry about the original characters!

Oops, that didn't sound quite how I meant it! Annawende and Vorondil are definitely worth worrying about in their own right!

Do not worry about the non-canon subplots! I like them a lot actually. And what is my Caranthir/Haleth-stuff anything but a whole big non-canon subplot? (At least, you know, people keep telling me it's not canon - but I remain un-convinced ( ... )

Thanks! And true...and I'm with you in thinking that there was something between them. :^P Although, in Felak!verse, for fear of plagarizing one Unsung Heroine, Caranthir is married to an Elven woman. But Haleth is the only Edain I like, so really, I like the notion of them being together.

I've played the flute for some years, but well, let's better not talk about it... ;-)

Lol! No worries, we'll class it with my trumpet- and guitar-playing skills and leave it at that! :^P

Reading your story I somehow find myself utterly appreciating my rather uncomplicated/undemanding father. :-)Feanor is kind of a more extreme version of my own father, who was a blatant, impossible-to-please perfectionist. He used to embarrass my mom at school concerts by picking apart the design of the program: "What possessed them to use such an ugly font?" or "What an awful print-job!" and such. Oh, I wouldn't have felt offended in the least. :-) But it will be nice to see him married, I think. Actually I've been even thinking of writing a story in which there is a wife back in Aman. However that story will necessarily (since there will still be Haleth) have quite a loose grip on LaCE. But well, my stories have anyway, so who cares? ;-)

Feanor is kind of a more extreme version of my own father, who was a blatant, impossible-to-please perfectionist.I think the fact that my parents are so easily to please lies in the fact that I'm actually the first of my family to get her A-levels and go to University. That fact gets proudly passed to all kind of relatives, but gets a little embarrassing whenever they start asking me what I plan to do when I'm finished with studying. Err, no idea ( ... )

I wonder if Fëanor has any idea how intimidating he appears to Maglor... I like Maglor's way of looking at him, though. "Easily hurt" - it's quite a contrast with how he is seen sometimes, as just a bad temper on two legs!

I doubt that Feanor realizes. He's in his own little world much of the time, it seems. He says or does something and only much later realizes the ramifications. Of course, this turns out very dangerous later on....

I honestly think that much of Feanor's behavior stems from him being hurt easily. From a very young age, confusing things happened in his life that must have hurt, like Miriel's death and his father's remarriage. His temper, I think, is just a way to cover how pained he was by all of this. Macalaure kind of sees right through him here. :)

Robes without underwear, indeed! *dies laughing*

Hey, boys will be boys, right? Elven or not! :^D

Now I want to know if he succeeded in proposing to Annawendë or whether he chickened out! They are so adorable together, I do hope he went through with it!Well, it ( ... )
