Some thoughts... We'll start with the movies.

In the film dramas, this will either be the year of Brokeback Mountain or Good Night, And Good Luck. Both are nominated for multiple awards, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. Roberson is excited (and so am I), Mamatas calls it "Jesus Christ, Superman" (and I kinda gotta agree), Joe Gordon likes the costume and the look, but isn't crazy about the messianic tone. The Golden Horse Awards, that is. That's the Hong Kong's version of the Oscars.

The film, which I love dearly, won Best Picture, Director, Best Supporting Actress and other awards. The Best Supporting Actress nod went to Qiu Yuen, the veteran actress that director (and star) Chow plucked from retirement to play the magnificent role of Landlady ( Read more... )
