Robert Sheckley, one of the pioneers of humorous science fiction, died today at age 77. Sheckley wrote some great stories, and was to be the Guest of Honour at this year's worldcon in Glasgow. Sadly, his health did not allow him to attend. There's a short obit at sfwa.org, and I expect more will be published in the next few days.

Ziv Kitaro is a cool guy. He's got some blogs, and a podcast show. He used to have a pretty cool shop.

Now, he's got a book. A non-fiction Guide to Faerie Folk, no less. In Hebrew.

The book will be hitting the stores in the next few days, and on December 28th, he's having a launch party at Tower Records in Azrieli Towers. Be there.

The SFWA announced Harlan Ellison as the next Science Fiction Grand Master. I certainly can't argue with the choice, as I'm a big fan. William F. Nolan was named Author Emeritus, and both will be honored at the Nebula Award Weekend next year ( Read more... )

Funny. Ever since I first heard of her work, I've thought of Catherynne M. Valente as a fantasy writer. Now, she has embraced the same notion.
