Um. Hello. I got here from your comment at Alex's recent post (b/c I'm always interested in people who talk about The Borgias) and I must say your opinions = A+, would repeat.

The cast is utterly superb, from Sancia all the way up to Holliday/Francois/Irons. Each just utterly SOLD their role, totes amazing.

I am flailing at all you say about Lucrezia --

She wasn't a pure soul who got corrupted by a perfidious world. Every scheming, morally ambiguous, vengeful part of Lucrezia in later seasons was there from the beginning, dormant but very present. Likewise, her earnest nature, her adolescent desires and hopes all remained with her even as she grew into her own power. It was never a case of changing values. It was merely a refocusing of the veritable electron cloud that was Lucrezia Borgia's driving passions.

B/C yes, always, once she was out of the sheltered innocence where she didn't need to use those skills, she learnt fast how to utilise them. And she learnt fast who to learn from (i.e. everyone.)

He's crazycakes and eerily ( ... )

Well hello and welcome! Alex has mentioned you to me before as a fellow Borgia appreciator, so I am pleased you found me. Not that I'm subtle. Now that I'm finally caught up, I'm kind of just screaming my love from the rooftops (JESUS LOVES ME I LOVE THIS SHOW).

The cast really is phenomenal. This is one of those shows that makes me feel like it's a shame that minor characters don't get more attention. All the cardinals were great, all these random characters who pop up for five minutes. Dude, Derek Jacobi was on this show. THIS IS A SHOW OF AWESOME BROS DON'T EVER DOUBT IT.

Ughhh, Lucrezia. What a glorious arc from start to finish. I ALREADY MISS HER SO MUCH.

the outside world was more a catalyst for removing his inhibitions than the #1 driving force.

Yes, thissss. SUCH a good way of saying it. And that's the allure of the Borgias. It wasn't just the world they were in that made them who they were. There's an inner fierceness that is inherent - they're all powerful in their own ways because they are Borgias.

And I can ( ... )

Shouting from the rooftops is the correct impulse to be honest.

One of the show's strengths was giving every single character/faction a voice and motivation that made them matter in their own right.

Dude, I have such a weird random love for Ascanio Sforza. I don't even know.

YOUR LOVE IS NOT RANDOM, he might actually be my favourite male character on the show. For real.

Though the cracks in the universe sucking him in certainly makes more sense, since no one seems to remember he EVER existed

Right after I saw this comment, I actually also found a Vanozza POV vid where she ruminates on how Rodrigo seems to have forgotten he existed, and that it was probably for the best.

Such word. Weirdly enough, one of my favourite scenes from this season (other than every Cesare/Lucrezia scene ever, obvs) is that one when that cardinal (ughhh can't remember his name SOMETHING ITALIAN?) is chained up in the Castel Sant Angelo and learning to lie. Actually, there are two of them. I love them both.

he might actually be my favourite male character on the show. For real.

Waaaaoooooowwww, really? I love Ascanio like whoa, but no one will ever beat Cesare in my heart (because I am a pathetic cliche, basically). Tell me of your love!

Lol, how true. It probs is for the best. He's just chilling with his hot wife, living the life. Good on you, Gioffre.

*rolls around in the pain*

Your Lucrezia thoughts are perf, I can add nothing.

and best of all, he's not doing it to compensate, not trying to make himself a villain to make up for the lack of love he gets from his father or whatever trope you will. It's because that's what's most efficient.Yesssssssssssss. I like how Cesare was always so stone-cold and in control in nearly all areas of his life (EXCEPT LUCREZIA #REASONS WHY OTP). He was the antithesis of Juan's impulsiveness -- he didn't lash out, he just compartmentalised ( ... )

I'm imagining you as your cat now. Seems accurate.

I WANT TO MARRY THIS WHOLE PARAGRAPH. Compartmentalization is my jam, yo. Sometimes I think Cesare and I are quite similar. And sometimes he sets people on fire and has sex with his sister and I think lol no you are perfect Cesare but no.

I think it's because he always put a lot of effort into keeping everything inside of him locked down, probably because he learned early on that he is the least loved child and no one would have any patience for the alternative. And my incest heart wants to say that it was also because the thing he wanted most in the world was forbidden to him, so it was wiser never to give too much away.WAIT THIS PARAGRAPH TOO I WANT TO MARRY THIS ONE. Because I am obvious, I fucking love the whole ( ... )

Yes, precisely. It is a delight. It's definitely darker than your average show, which, obvs, I love. It never got enough attention, but I always loved it, and I will very much miss it. Definitely watch it!

Probably a wise move not to read this post. I am not known for my filtering.

I've only just now watched The Borgias in it's entirety (rewatching it again cuz I was blinded by MY LOVE CESARE AND HIS LOVE FOR HIS SISTER) and I just found this post of yours and needed to say I agree with everything ( ... )
