Over the weekend a friend and I saw Paddington, which was pretty delightful. Nicole Kidman, as the villain, looked more natural than I'd seen her in years (not a snarky comment, her face looked all human and pliable!) and the actress who played Mrs. Brown was adorable. Really fun ( Read more... )

I had kind of a busy weekend doing house-y stuff, but I have to go teach a class in a short time so for now I'll just mention that I finished off the weekend by finally seeing Guardians Of the Galaxy. House-related: I've been hoping this one would come back on the market. It's the same layout as House #3 in my previous house-related post, only with an addition built on the back to make the kitchen larger, a basement instead of a crawlspace, and two doors on the front downstairs bedroom. Okay, well, in the movie theatres. Last February I had tickets to a broadcast of the Donmar Warehouse production of Coriolanus, starring Tom Hiddleston. The play was fantastic but there were technical difficulties and the upshot was that I was given a pass to attend another of these special events.

I haven't seen the new Captain America movie--have heard good things, up to a point, about the political part of the plot, and I'm assured Steve Rogers feels like Steve Rogers again, instead of the miserable tool we saw in The Avengers, but the thought of sitting through the blow-shit-up finale that seems to be mandatory in a post-Avengers world ( Read more... )

Okay, so while we were in the throes of figuring out that two pesterings a day were too much for Mitzi, a former fellow boarder (who's a graduate student in a healthcare field and thus even more stressed and tired than I was at the time!) and I decided to see Thor: The Dark World together. We wanted to eat popcorn, ogle, and be distracted.
