My 10-year high school reunion is this weekend. For some reason they picked a place with a $60 cover -- plus there is no sign that any of my friends are actually attending, so I have decided not to go. Instead I am roomba-ing the house and doing laundry and dishes. Whee!

Work has been insane lately. On Friday we had a celebration (potluck lunch) for the "end of the beginning" of the school year, but my team is still very much in the middle of a crunch time with deadlines approaching. Things should settle down a little bit in a couple of weeks ( Read more... )

Been super busy with work. School is starting! Haven't received the avalanche of content complaints that I have been worried about, so that's good. I've been trying to work through some staffing changes and learn how to be a manager... Yesterday I grabbed a cup out of my pantry and noticed that it was all gross inside. It turns out that most of my dishes were dirty! I checked the dishwasher and sure enough, the Cascade ActionPac was still locked in the detergent reservoir. So obviously the last time I unloaded the dishwasher, the dishes were still dirty. Much to my surprise, the apartment manager gave me a substantial discount on my June rent to make up for last week's shenanigans. I paid with my credit card; they have an online resident portal where you can put in service requests and pay rent, which is awesome because I can get something like 0.8% cash back on credit card purchases. Back in March I signed a lease to move in to my apartment on May 28. It didn't occur to me that this would fall on Memorial Day until just a couple of weeks ago, so I called the leasing office and asked if there would be any difficulties with that. So, last week the ice maker was dispensing crushed ice even when it was set to cubes*. Well, guess what... It makes cubes* again without any intervention on my part!

* The shape of the so-called "cubes" is actually a hemicylinder.
