Some of my hens have been receiving too much *ahem* attention from the roosters...  which causes severe feather loss (down to bare skin) on their backs and on the backs of their shoulders.   Poor things, they not only looked terrible, they were at real risk for possible injuries and subsequent infections.

Well... if you can call it a crow. He's trying though, lol!

What's funny is I have four other roosters that are older than him, but this one is the first to crow. He's also the one that was sold to me as a female. :P

So the chicken coop is done!  YAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAY!!!!

Well, it's almost done, lol. Hubby still wants to put in some feeders made from PVC pipe and a place to hang the waterers... plus he still needs to build the fence around it for the pasture. But other than that... it's complete!

One of my husband's mottos is, "If it's worth doing, it's worth OVERdoing."   That's very evident in the construction of my new chicken house.  What started off being a small 4X6 shed has morphed into quite a project.   Here's what he's done so far.

Since I had the camera out snapping pictures of the new chicks today, I grabbed the opportunity to take a few more around the place. I think it'll be interesting to see how the scenery changes as the seasons turn!

I received my first of two mail-order chick shipments today! In this order, I have three barred Rocks, three Rhode Island Reds, and the hatchery also put in two "packing peanuts" (extra chicks) that I believe are Red Star roosters.
