My new chicken house is under construction!

One of my husband's mottos is, "If it's worth doing, it's worth OVERdoing."   That's very evident in the construction of my new chicken house.  What started off being a small 4X6 shed has morphed into quite a project.   Here's what he's done so far.

Here he is getting started. Right after I took this, he looked at me and said, "Don't take my picture... IT STEALS PART OF MY SOUL."

Um, right. Moving on...

This is what it looked like by the end of the first two days of construction. The floor is 10 feet by 12 feet, and the front wall there is 8 feet high.

Here's the second wall being built. It's lying flat on the floor there, but you can sort of see where the windows, etc. will be. The second wall will be raised opposite of the first one, and it is 6 feet tall... making the slope of the roof.

Speaking of windows, there they are! I know in the picture, it looks like they are painted with peeling paint, but in reality they are aluminum framed... but all cobwebby and dusty from being in storage for so long. XD

Here's my husband hard at work on the nest boxes.

No... I take that back. He's working on the "stupid fucking nestboxes." Apparently they were quite irritating to build. Hee.

But here they are in the end... all framed out and ready. All that remains is the hinged lid to allow access for gathering the eggs, which will have the same slope as the main roof... and the siding, of course. But that's the easy part, according to my husband.

And... that's it so far! The ground has dried up here and we still have 700 acres of soybeans to plant, so the chicken house has been put on the back burner for now. I'll post more pictures when he has a chance to do some more work on it! :D
