The new graphics card I bought and installed yesterday seems to be doing very well. I have not done the benchmark test as yet, but will tackle that this morning, and then shove the side back on the PC and hope it does not get too warm in there until next weekend when I can get a replacement fan for the back of the computer to help draw out the hot ( Read more... )

There is ONE silver lining to all this futzing with the ol' PC, a 6 year old nearly one at that. Though the motherboard was replaced in 2011, I think with an outside brand, eVGA, and it's a very, very nice one at that, and it's actually server grade too, thanks to the x58 chipset from Intel (now at end of life, sadly). Yep, I'm now getting pop ads on Explorer too, though Firefox is considerably less than it once was. All suspicious ones too, and I've run spybot, and need to run adaware again as I seem to be majorly infected ( Read more... )

After last night's fiasco with the PC, this morning, ran CC Cleaner and cleaned up the registry, and also cleaned up both Explorer and Firefox. Firefox is still riddled with pop up ads, and the Ad Blocker Plus still does nothing, but Explorer runs like it should. I still have block all pop up windows on FF, and it's doing nothing ( Read more... )

First off, the ATI driver horked upon wakening up, finally got that up and running, then Firefox horked and did a reinstall, and used a bad downloader apparently through Explorer (top of the list, Mozilla was way down the list, but not after I had installed this suspicious version oF FF. This week has been fraught with disappearing video drivers for the ATI Radeon Catalyst control center and driver, in no thanks to Windows updating, now that I have Service Pack 2.
