This week has been fraught with disappearing video drivers for the ATI Radeon Catalyst control center and driver, in no thanks to Windows updating, now that I have Service Pack 2. I'd get the green or gray squares all over both monitors, then the whole OS crashes and tries to repair the problem, sometimes, sometimes not after several attempts.
I've had to reinstall the driver/software several times, and last night was no exception. I have since turned off Windows updater as it seems to be horking things when it does update. This is Vista 64 I'm working with. The clue I know it's the driver is the blue screen of death indicates it's trying to repair, or fix the display driver before rebooting. Also, the catalyst driver is literally gone when up and I click on the driver in the start menu, so have to literally reinstall the whole thing and reset my display settings. It's essential as I run two monitors on this machine, one my old analog (VGA) LCD 17" display, and the much newer (DVI) digital 22" Dell widescreen LCD monitor, though I CAN run it as an analog monitor via the VGA port on the back as well.
Anyway, life rolls on, no new housing candidates have come up, but I look almost every day and need to check the mailbox and see what, if anything is in there related to the credit card breach investigation with PayPal, and I also need to see if I have a new CC as well.
I tried something yesterday, at the suggestion of a gal at work, to come early and park along the side street near work so I have the car close by in case I need to leave early to tour a house or something. Left the house at 6:45 yesterday morning and literally was at work within 15 minutes as there was no traffic at that hour of the morning. and literally found a spot in front of her Toyota truck, so yay! That meant I could start at my appointed out of 7:30, take a 30 minute lunch ad be OUT of work by 4pm! I think I like that schedule MUCH better (or I can just start around 7am and be done closer to 3:30... the mind boggles).
Anyway, it helps with the commute as just leaving 5-15 minutes later can really screw one's commute up by taking MUCH longer to get home.
However, instead, I decided to take the long way home by heading east on I-90 to State Route 18, and taking it all the way into Federal Way and then come up old Hwy 99, also known as Pacific Highway S through Federal Way, Midway, SeaTac etc, getting off at E Marginal Way, I think it is and merging onto SR 509 just before the 1st Ave S bridge and through the SODO area into downtown and up Pike Street home.
I had two free things from work, one a breakfast thing of scrambled eggs, bacon and roasted potatoes, and a Cobb Salad thing, both leftovers of food from the week that needed to be given a good home or it'll get tossed out on Monday as the cafe is closed over the weekend.
I ate the breakfast dish for dinner, and will have the Cobb salad tonight. I also got paid yesterday as well so there is now money in the coffers for the moment.
Today, I've got to make a quick run to the bread store and I think that's it as far as errands out of the 'hood is concerned.
I will house search as well.
Today is expected to be wet but warmish with the high in the upper 50's with a 90% chance of rain.
I also need to do some cleaning here as well, namely the kitchen, but did make cookies the other night and they came out great despite having to work around a mountain of dirty glasses and mugs. I just did the recipe in stages by first mixing the dry ingredients together, then after dinner creamed the wet ingredients (brown sugar, egg, fats (crisco and butter), and the vanilla until well incorporated then added the dry ingredients until fully incorporated and then mixed in the chocolate chips and baked right off.
This allowed me to have the dry all ready to go, dry ingredients put away so when it came to the wet and the mixer, that was all I had to deal with, outside of the premixed dry I had already done in a mixing bowl. However, it's not an ideal way to cook, but in a pinch it does work nicely.
So with that, time I go have breakfast and get on with my day, starting with a paltry shower as I have NO real water pressure anymore in the shower, but I CAN do it nonetheless.
