Slight change of plans

Apparently, a week or so ago, the call I got from a Diane at Pay Me Later, though I don't recall if she used that name, but something about my Pay Pal account being compromised. I hadn't called her back, though I did get her number, and it turned out through a Google search of the phone # to be the company that handles all of eBay's transactions, though I don't have a full account, but DO use the service when I do buy as my credit card is linked to the account.

Anyway, She was calling because someone tried to make a bogus account using my credentials? Anyway, my stupid voice mail through my land line sometimes lops off parts of words, making it kind of difficult to understand stuff so hadn't gotten the case # from the message, which I've kept, I'm pretty sure. In any event, my credit card IS compromised. the people(s) stole money, in 50's from it, and my card got locked out as I went to use it to pay for 2 slices of pizza. Thankfully, I had some money in my checking account I can use, though my rent check hasn't been cashed yet, and I'm sexpecting that to happen Monday, or Tuesday of this coming week.

So, gotta deal with that this morning before I can get onto anything else.

So I'll need to block the Pay Pal link currently have, or shut it down and recreate a new one - and see if I can get that money back, or as much of it as possible in any event. This type of thing is why it's been often cited as a GOOD reason to have one, to make secure purchases so if fraud DOES occur, you aren't shit out of luck unlike if it's your debit card since it's linked to your bank account.

In other news, got a call from my lender and in the next couple of months, there WILL be lower interest rate monies available, though she didn't have specifics yet on what, but she did think it could be as low as in the high 2's. Meaning, as low as the high 2% range, if not it'll probably be at 3% like the one program I was eligible for last year that ended last fall so that was why we verified stuff again then, and adjust the monies accordingly. So timing and all that notwithstanding, definitely good news, and could push my budget up to 190K at least, so my payments at $800-850/Mo may net me as high as 170-175K range to purchase. As it is now, it'll be over that amount at 170K, but it won't significantly over that I think, and this will include the homeowner's insurance, the property tax monthly payment, and the rest being the mortgage - and maybe the home warranty as well. I'm tempted to just get it for the first couple of years so if I suddenly get a broken pipe that soaks the cabinets in the kitchen, I can then have funds to at least partially fund a kitchen redo, and fix any issues that may be present, such as a wonky layout, or combine the laundry and kitchen into one space etc. However, if I did that, and I'm owning a mid century home, I'd keep the remodel in the spirit of the original kitchen, but update it, and with an emphases on cooking so some design functions will be skewed towards efficiency, not strictly on looks.

Outside of that, not much else, though I did I think get the graphic card issue on the big Dell fixed. It took some work, but I got the screens to come up as normal long enough to try the restore function in safe mode - and I can't recall now how I got the wonky drivers to behave, but behave they did, and the restore took me back to 3/3/15, the day I installed the new graphics drivers. Whew! so it did that, but still no Catalyst software, so then I was able to pull up the download and uninstall and then reinstall the drivers - all that after countless restarts as the computer did the BSOD, trying to fix the issue on its own, and nothing seemed to be working.

So far, it looks hunky dory, and if it continues to be stable, baskup the damn computer. Something I've neglected to do since I think a failed backup several years ago when I bought a bright red Wetern Digital My Passport drive, just for this purpose.

Other than that, I WAS going to, and may still yet, if I can get the CU, or PayPal to refund the unauthorized payments back to me by end of day go buy some new shoes for work. I've worn out all pairs to the point of ridiculousness and my feet at letting me know about it. The rent is paid, but it leaves me with maybe $200 in the acount when that cashes, and thus, not enough to go get shoes, and groceries for the week until I get paid again, unless the card card gets reimbursed today, then I'm solid for the week. I think what happened is someone forged my credentials at PayPal's payment arm, but may not have my actual CC #. I will also check the mail and see if there is anything in there about suspicious activity, and thus the bank may have frozen the card until the problem is fixed, I dunno.

So, that is on the agenda this morning, see if I can gather the case # from the VM and try calling Bill Me Later, or PayPal Credit. Fortunately, they ARE open on Saturdays so I can hopefully get this dealt with, and deal with the CU as needed.

Last night had an interesting dream that occured just before I awoke at quarter to 7 this morning had to do with friends, my site supervisor, and a CD I was trying to find a song on, and ended up with Night Swimming by R.E.M from Automatic for the People. The night before, had to do with my brown leather blazer that I let another gent wear. He, unfortunately looked like a former instructor I had in a video program who was nowhere near my type. Odd how that jacket is the one I often dream about, but not any of the others. Strange how the mind works... Another beautiful day today, sunny and 58F, with tomorrow, partly sunny and 60F and it should be quite lovely through much of next week too before a few light showers later in the week, temps between 58 and 61 until ten days out then we are expected a day of 65F.

BTW, don't forget to set your clocks ahead tomorrow night. Yep, Daylight Savings time is here! Easter is on April 5th this year - and I certainly hope this spring ends up busy and a house gets procured SOON.

So next on the agenda is to have breakfast, see if I can obtain the case # and try calling Bill Me Later, or PayPal Credit and see if I can get this resolved, expiditiously and if need be, go talk to the CU while they ARE open today, I think until 1pm so times a wastin'.

fraud, computer, credit card, shopping
