I put in a new inset electric fire today. Not exactly rocket science, but I'm quite pleased that I did it on my own! :)

The gas cooker finally got plumbed in on Tuesday - Tom had the day off for the gasfitter as I've run out of leave. It is brilliant and made the old one look like a museum piece.

We put the old one outside, hoping it would get stolen by metal thieves. On Wednesday it did - which was both useful and bloody scary.........

This bloody house is so cold I can barely think. Gah.

When I got home from work today I found someone had dumped a load of stuff in the skip outside. We'd left plenty of room so I could put some privet in, then weigh it down with heavier stuff to maximise what would go in, so we'd only about one third filled it. Some jerk had thrown some of a staircase and MOST OF A FUCKING FITTED KITCHEN IN IT!!!! ( Read more... )

We did a bit of decorating today. Anyone who hadn't seen the house before would still think it looks awful - but anyone who has would see some improvement. It now at least looks like a work in progress; a normal house.

We've had a quite busy weekend.
Yesterday morning I did two job applications. Tom killed the weeds in his front garden.

Well, I intend doing a lot of DIY while Tom is away. But honestly, bits of it still keep defeating me, in a technical sense. Also - I'd forgotten that although DIY is quite fun if you do it together, it's just another chore on your own (although it does give you a sense of achievement when it's done).
