The washing machine is now fixed, so the house is full of wet clothes. I also had to use up a full day's holiday because the repair man was here for three hours in the middle of the day so I couldn't just take a half day. More than one actually.
The washer repair man arrived again yesterday. He sucked his teeth and shook his head a bit, then said something vital was broken and needed replacing and the part wouldn't arrive till next week. He then put all the bits - broken and otherwise - back and said not to use it.

I shall be washing at Tom's this weekend.

Right: the assessor came, and agreed the wall will need replastering, the floorboards replacing, and the sink & cabinet replacing. He thinks this will come to little more than £500, so will try to get me an interim cheque out for that amount. I now have to get one estimate for the work: they will pay the difference later. Some more of the half-inch thick 18" x 10" glass tiles fell off (other wall this time) while I was cooking tea tonight. The rest of the wall is still sweating damp. The insurance assessor is due on Thursday. The same day as the snow........

Today was supposed to be the day I blitzed my Christmas shopping. This morning the washing machine broke. They found me an engineer slot. This afternoon. Which is good in a way.....

One of the women I work with needed some shoes repairing yesterday. The metal arch under the heel had broken. Her local repairer had taken one look at them (beautifully vintage-styled red sandals, also needing re-heeling) and been very rude about the condition of them and refused to do them, saying no-one would repair anything in that condition.
