When I got home from work today I found someone had dumped a load of stuff in the skip outside. We'd left plenty of room so I could put some privet in, then weigh it down with heavier stuff to maximise what would go in, so we'd only about one third filled it. We did a bit of decorating today. Anyone who hadn't seen the house before would still think it looks awful - but anyone who has would see some improvement. It now at least looks like a work in progress; a normal house. -
D.I.Y.
This weekend we filled a small skip and did a lot of DIY at mine. This all went well.
Unfortunately we managed to trash the lavatory cistern at Tom's while endeavouring to replace the ball trap. I hasten to add this was not our fault: it was plastic, and about fifty years old and had little structural integrity when the lid was off. We managed to ( Read more... ) -

Well, I intend doing a lot of DIY while Tom is away. But honestly, bits of it still keep defeating me, in a technical sense. Also - I'd forgotten that although DIY is quite fun if you do it together, it's just another chore on your own (although it does give you a sense of achievement when it's done). More DIY-ing today - namely, replacing the lock on my bedroom door so that it will function as a catch without needing to be locked. So - no more locking men in the bedroom, then! -

On a real-life note: today I more or less finished filling the skip. I also converted the bedroom single plug socket to a double one (thus whilst not increasing the load capacity, I at least made it look less crowded). Yay for me and DIY!

Paul the Plumber, and a little DIY
Paul the Plumber kindly broke into his Christmas holiday today to come and give me a quote on the kitchen, so that I wouldn't have to take time off from work for it next week. It also fitted in nicely with the fact that I wasn't seeing Tom today because he had to work, too.
Paul thinks the assessor's £500 estimate was on the optimistic side.
