Paul the Plumber kindly broke into his Christmas holiday today to come and give me a quote on the kitchen, so that I wouldn't have to take time off from work for it next week. It also fitted in nicely with the fact that I wasn't seeing Tom today because he had to work, too.
Paul thinks the assessor's £500 estimate was on the optimistic side.
The only constructive thing I got done today was to reupholster the bedroom stool in a rather slapdash manner - involving a lack of upholstery nails, running out of carpet tacks, and finding I had no staples left, and culminating in glueing on some too-pale fringing to cover the defective bits. On the whole, though, it looks better than it did before when it was decorated in 'broderie de chat'.*
I still have to do the matching curtains for the dressing table. Actually, there is loads of stuff that needs doing more urgently than either of these things. They're my usual diversion-tactic DIY-ing.
*Cat embroidery - in other words, clawed to bits.
