We have way more lights than we can put up in the house or out front, so Kevin stuck some stakes in the edge of the gravel pad in the back yard and strung little green lights around it in an arc. At Christmas in Barcelona, there is a Catalan custom of dressing up a log, giving it food, then hitting it with sticks and singing it a song so that it poops nougat and presents. Can't make this, er, um... shit up!

Jeremy and Natalie and the boys came over at 4. We hung out and the boys played with Tully and Rumi. Two years ago was just about the nadir of our time in St. Joe; we had a horrible time that nasty winter. Last year I had to send Kevin back to Missouri and return to my rented room in Tamara's house. This year represents a significant upward trend ( Read more... )

I think my batterie de cuisine has been substantially upgraded. My cousins Carol and Chaela gave us a Ninja chopper with four stackable bowls and Santa brought a Cuisinart food processor with 3 workbowls. Kevin's mom sent warm slippers with open backs (JUST what I wanted!) and he got dried shiitakes, nice new sheets, and a good laptop bag. The cats ( Read more... )

Been stretched fairly thin the last few days, at least one event every day and some days two. We're expecting a big snowstorm here in the next couple of hours -- after a full day of weather-service warning -- so the guys who bought a fajita lunch for ten for tomorrow moved it to today.
