under the tree, over the road

I think my batterie de cuisine has been substantially upgraded. My cousins Carol and Chaela gave us a Ninja chopper with four stackable bowls and Santa brought a Cuisinart food processor with 3 workbowls. Kevin's mom sent warm slippers with open backs (JUST what I wanted!) and he got dried shiitakes, nice new sheets, and a good laptop bag. The cats each gave him one of the outdoor lanterns that I like (*grin*) for his birthday. I owe him a batch of German chocolate ice cream.

Yesterday we opened his birthday presents, then headed for KC. We ate at Taj Palace in Westport, then went to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art to see an exhibit called "Maps As Art," since Kevin likes maps a lot. It wasn't what either of us expected. The Kemper didn't exist when I lived in KC before; what a lovely addition to a good art and museum scene. Then to Berbiglia on Main Street for some sparkling wines. We wanted to go to the Architectural Salvage place down in Crossroads but it was closed. So we went to the City Market instead (a VERY different experience on a weekday!) for a couple of 50-cent pineapples and a pound of Pecorino Romano served up by the hottest Guido! -- *bites knuckle*

Rather than face the Speed Racers on I-29, we came back up 169 and it was much more pleasant (until I got stuck behind a farm truck that wanted to go 40).

Today we went down the hill and joined the YMCA. I haven't had a gym membership in... 28 years. Went for a shvitz and to check the place out. Nice facilities and a good hot steam room.

gym, xmas, ymca, wine, birthday
