A federal Liberal government could eventually rescind Conservative cuts to the goods-and-services tax, Liberal Leader Stephane Dion said Wednesday.

Is Stephane Dion an idiot? Even ignoring soaring surpluses, how can he possibly believe that rescinding a cut against the most hated tax in Canada could do anything positive for him or his party?

The budget surplus for the 2007-08 fiscal year is also heading for the stratosphere. In August, the Finance Department acknowledged that the surplus would top its original $3-billion projection. For just the first three months of the new fiscal year, Ottawa has already pegged the surplus at $6.4 billion.

According to a recent article (Link and Link), the Liberals signed up for Kyoto knowing that Canada wouldn't meet its targets.
