(for the politically informed)
"Some important, some astonishing, and some truly appalling things all Canadians should know about our country"
If you haven't read this book, you must go find it and read it, now!
Ignore the down-played reviews you may read because the points that are made here are quite "Canadian". By THAT, I mean that there are some revealing stats in here and related info that shows how Canada is slowly on its way down the tubes falling victim to capitalism, and how our media, our politicians and even our citizens are completely ignoring it, just because it's the layed-back Canadian way to mind our own personal business and let the government do "their" thing... or anything they want.
One quick example: of the G7 countries, here's how we we rated for imports of our goods and services as a percentage of our GDP in 2007:
Canada - 41%
Germany - 28%
UK - 27%
France - 24%
Italy - 24%
US - 13%
Japan - 9%
Now even the non-economic savvy can cleary see how Canada lacks greatly in domestically created goods and services in comparison to other G7. By rights, with our huge ammounts of natural resources we should be dead last on this list, right? So why is this? The multitude reasons for this is stated in this book, and they range from our lack of self interest to our government being push-overs to the US, the FTA, the NAFTA and selling us out to foreign "investors" and corperations.
Last time. READ THIS BOOK!
