So, my sleep schedule has been totally whack (regular type, not wiggedy whack) and I got up early today. Because I'm anxiously awaiting the new Steven Universe and needed to kill time, I thought I'd better finish this bad boy up. Sorry it's a bit late, I was working on some stuff. And my tablet seems to have crapped out on me so, no more Photoshop

I think you're right that Ann just struck it lucky in writing the series. I'll be the first person to admit the 80s were a very stupid time and the height of bad entertainment. I agree her shitty writing wouldn't fly today. Look at how people tear apart Twilight and 50 Shades. You couldn't have protagonists being needlessly mean and judgmental and hateful nowadays. It's funny, because aside from this comm, whenever I see people reminiscing about the BSC, they remember it fondly. I'm guessing most people don't actually reread the books and just ( ... )

Stacey's really better off never getting married because all I can think of is the scene in Roseanne when Jackie's telling Fred how many men she'd been with and it was a jaw dropping number. Needless to say I bet Stacey would even give Jackie a run for her money.

For me I always see Stacey growing up to be like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City.

You're right in how Richard is pretty much the only character with actual development. Everyone else always reverts back to being a terrible person by the next book. It's like Ann CAN write well, she just DOESN'T. At least not on purpose because Richard isn't SUPPOSED to be likable.

One interesting thing I noticed is that, in the early books, MA said Richard always said a prayer before dinner asking God to watch over Alma but in later books he never does. Either or, I like Richard, even though in the early books he seemed so over protective and unapproachable he was borderline creepy. Later Richard is really cute (especially when MA got her make over, and when there was some field day deal and he was wearing a Bart Simpson shirt or shorts or something. That always made me laugh.)

She never learns that you shouldn't treat people like shit because you think a boy is cute! She just does it again and again and again! Why does Ann think writing selfish, mean protagonists is the way to go?! Why does no one have any morals?! They should be changing for the better, not getting progressively worse! How can anyone be such a shitty writer yet have made millions off of their writing?! I'm infuriated!--i really don't know. but it makes me very fucking angry. at least the movie 'mean girls' has a positive-ish message at the end, THESE mean girls, on the other hand? LOLNO. if i think about how ann somehow made MILLIONS off of these horrible books with horrible messages for too long, i start to black out with rage. and "too long" is usually anything over 30 seconds. When Mary Anne and Stacey are alone, Mary ( ... )

I REALLY wish Mary Anne would keep her spine from things like this. I wish with all my heart that she had told Dawn off when she got her haircut. There was really ZERO excuse for Dawn to be let off the hook on that one.
Ann ALWAYS has people explaining their jokes. It doesn't say much for what she thinks about her reader base if she thinks they can't understand the simplest jokes.
Every BSC member needs some serious therapy. Stacey thinks every little crush is true love. K Ron is a Goddamn dictator who treats her friends like subordinates. MA has severe anxiety. Claudia is stupider than a brick. Mal is a fucking work horse who craves a life of slavery. And Dawn is a fucking sociopath. Only Jessi doesn't have any serious problems because Ann made her more bland than plain yogurt.
I'm so happy you liked the snark! (○゜ε^○)

I would love for there to be a high school reunion fic wherein the BSC gets drunk and admits a bunch of secrets. Mary Anne could tell Logan he wasn't her first kiss, Dawn could confess about the secret passage prank, etc.
