Boy Crazy Stacey! Part The End!

Jan 04, 2016 11:53

So, my sleep schedule has been totally whack (regular type, not wiggedy whack) and I got up early today. Because I'm anxiously awaiting the new Steven Universe and needed to kill time, I thought I'd better finish this bad boy up. Sorry it's a bit late, I was working on some stuff. And my tablet seems to have crapped out on me so, no more Photoshop ( Read more... )

And the thing is, she keeps doing things like this.--Exactly. Go through this shit enough times, how can a person not grow from the experience? 1. I clearly don't know my ass from a hole in the ground when it concerns "love" 2. It's certainly not worth dumping all over your friends whether it's love or not ( ... )

My theory is, Ann sucks at writing. She can't come up with more than a few story lines or character traits, so she just repeats things over and over. So many of Stacey's stories are her being a bitch to someone or having a crush. I get that Ann was churning this books out like butter and needed to spread herself thin, but she could at least have Stacey say/think 'Better not go overboard this time like the time with Scott' or something. Like I said, nobody ever learns a thing. It's maddening.

I think you're right that Ann just struck it lucky in writing the series. I'll be the first person to admit the 80s were a very stupid time and the height of bad entertainment. I agree her shitty writing wouldn't fly today. Look at how people tear apart Twilight and 50 Shades. You couldn't have protagonists being needlessly mean and judgmental and hateful nowadays. I'm guessing most people don't actually reread the books and just go by memory.--I admit I think I fit on both sides of the aisle. I'm horrified at the shit that's in these books but I can still fondly remember buying them whenever I had some pocket change or remember the book fairs in elementary school, etc. I guess the fondness is more connections than anything else.

Stacey's really better off never getting married because all I can think of is the scene in Roseanne when Jackie's telling Fred how many men she'd been with and it was a jaw dropping number. Needless to say I bet Stacey would even give Jackie a run for her money.

For me I always see Stacey growing up to be like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City.

I can totally see Stacey as Carrie! Blonde, horny, thinks New York is unique and special...yup! It all fits! I used to watch that show all the time even though I deeply hated it.
