Boy Crazy Stacey! Part The End!

Jan 04, 2016 11:53

So, my sleep schedule has been totally whack (regular type, not wiggedy whack) and I got up early today. Because I'm anxiously awaiting the new Steven Universe and needed to kill time, I thought I'd better finish this bad boy up. Sorry it's a bit late, I was working on some stuff. And my tablet seems to have crapped out on me so, no more Photoshop ( Read more... )

"So, my sleep schedule has been totally whack (regular type, not wiggedy whack) and I got up early today."

There must be something in the air! My sleep schedule has been screwed up since before Christmas and has yet to return to normal. I've taken up residence in the den from around 10:30PM til 2 or 3 in the morning, because that's where all the books live and it's also a place I can plug in my emulator and call Sonic and/or Mario a bunch of filthy names without waking or offending anyone.

"People are supposed to learn and grow. But that never happens! "

I love how Richard is one of the few who actually learns and grows throughout the series. What can I say, I like the guy and how he went from an overly stodgy person bordering on a certifiable creepy ass to learning how to calm the hell down and lighten up and enjoy life.

"Why the fuck do they always try to convince us that Stacey isn't a 'New York snob' when they constantly give us evidence to the contrary?!"

The NYC snob stereotype is alive and well in this book, I see. I've met some kick ass people from NYC and some that wear Stacey's attitude perfectly (as well as Dawns granola munching, blonde hair and blue eyes and everyone in CA loves health food and lives 6 minutes from the ocean stereotype.)

"If I didn't know better, I'd say Malibu Stacey was named after this dumb broad."

Don't ask me, I'm just a girl!!! Teehee!!! *punch*

"Stacey writes Claudia saying she's in luv again."

Damn, that kind of shit takes me back to Jr. High. "He made eye contact with me for 1.2 seconds at the assembly!!! We're totally getting married!!!"

"His brown hair was sort of waved back from his face. It was held out of his eyes with a blue headband. He was wearing plain white swimming trunks, but his shirt was amazing - tan with silly pictures of cowboy boots and cactuses all over it. And his sunglasses - black bands with narrow slits from side to side to see through. Totally cool.'"

A shirt with cartoon boots and cactuses all over it sounds like something Jamie Newton would wear. If he wore it, it would be "adorable." If Claud wore it, it would be "OMG so original and Japanese and exotic". If Ashley Wyath wore it, she'd be branded a freak. If Jenny wore it, she'd be branded a brat because she must think she's, like, Princess Jenny of the Wild, Wild West.

"Claire comes in completely starkers because she's one step away from being a literal baboon. "

I can't even.

"There's no way in Hell Stacey is that humble and able to laugh at herself."

I'm sure there are exceptions, but most 13 year olds I knew (when I was 13) and know now (that are still 13, even without a damn time warp) get embarrassed and overly-dramatic about it at the drop of a hat. In general, the ones I'm aware of don't laugh at themselves. They get red faced and stomp away like a pissy peacock, therefore drawing MORE attention to themselves. Then they get mad at whoever made them mad in the first place, and a huge fight ensues, and the claws come out and there's screaming and crying and angst and dear God in heaven thank you for making puberty not last forever because...just thank you.

Excellent snark!!!

Thanks you!

You're right in how Richard is pretty much the only character with actual development. Everyone else always reverts back to being a terrible person by the next book. It's like Ann CAN write well, she just DOESN'T. At least not on purpose because Richard isn't SUPPOSED to be likable.

It seems like Mary Anne is the one who always gets a personality transplant for the sake of the plot. She was super bitchy to Dawn when Travis came to town ("I'd dress up more, but Logan likes me the way I am!" BURN) and when Stacey noticed in the vs. BSC books that the BSC members were childish, MA suddenly turned into a low functioning 2nd grader. Kinda funny really.

One interesting thing I noticed is that, in the early books, MA said Richard always said a prayer before dinner asking God to watch over Alma but in later books he never does. Either or, I like Richard, even though in the early books he seemed so over protective and unapproachable he was borderline creepy. Later Richard is really cute (especially when MA got her make over, and when there was some field day deal and he was wearing a Bart Simpson shirt or shorts or something. That always made me laugh.)
