Not entirely put off train travel by last weekend's debacle (see previous entry) I decided to take in a bit of culture up in Town, having first checked that BiL thought he would be fully up to it.  He broke his leg a few months back, is out of plaster a while since, but still on crutches when out and about.  BiL reckoned that he was.

Aaaarrrggh!  They're already using the 'C' (or more likely the 'X') word.  Sewing Quarter had 'C****** in July' programmes last month, as have other channels, writes she having noted when skipping through looking for something actually interesting.

Useful, ubiquitous and not so fantastic.  Plastic lasts, and lasts, and lasts.  Ok so it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces, eventually, but it's still plastic.  Anyone who's watched the series Blue Planet 2 or seen recent publicity about the stuff will know that it's now everywhere - either as litter or, in tiny bits, getting into the ( Read more... )

Apparently Samsung are somehow involved in palm oil production (no, I don't know how, probably investing in a palm oil producing/using company.)  Unfortunately palm oil production involves clearfelling rainforest, mainly in southeast Asia, to make palm oil plantations.   ( Read more... )

There has been quite a lot of fuss over recent months about the use/licensing of pesticides by the EU.  Or the wisdom of their use in general. There's the Monsanto weedkiller Glyphosate - there's a petition to get it banned, or at very least severly restricted.  There are the neonicotinoid pesticides - were banned in the EU, then UK gave them a one ( Read more... )
