It was time to count down to the end of the softball season. After two days of rain, it was time for our first playoff game.

We had 11 players on our team. One was a travel player who we knew would miss a lot of games and she had a out of town tournament this weekend. That made 10.

The softball fields are too wet to play today. They are almost certainly going to be too wet to play tomorrow, since it's going to be raining tomorrow afternoon according to the forecast.

So we'll be trying that playoff game at 5 PM on Sunday. :)

We scrimmaged against another Des Plaines softball team today to get in a little practice before the playoffs begin on Friday. We were drastically short on players for one reason and another, so we ended up with coaches in the outfield for our team. This did not necessarily improve the defense...

The windshield of Gretchen's minivan was a casualty of an errant foul ball at Saturday's softball game. The windshield repair service has been booked and a replacement windshield will be installed tomorrow morning.

The kids finished the regular season with a close loss today, 13-10. There's a scrimmage game on Wednesday against another Des Plaines team to get some practice in and then it's off to the playoffs on Thursday or Friday.

We'll see how it goes. They're a good bunch of kids and they play hard. And they've improved a lot this season, all of which is

We didn't have our field for practice today (it was occupied by an actual game for one of the other local teams), so we headed out to the batting cages for a bit of work. I took a turn in the high-arc softball cage, that being the only one I was allowed in without a helmet, and demonstrated that I can still put a bat on a ball, which made me feel ( Read more... )

We arrived at our softball practice field this morning to discover that it was filled with men playing cricket. We have no idea if they actually booked our field out from under us with the Park District, but since the opposite field was unoccupied, we figured we'd go there. After a game yesterday where nothing went right, the kids came back and played their best game of the season tonight, winning 11-8 in six innings. Both teams played really well -- the team we beat entered the game with a 4-1 record, so they've obviously been playing well.
