I was surprised to read on my newsfeed this afternoon that the Cardinals had fired manager Mike Shildt.

My guess is that it had something to do with management wanting him to rely more on analytics and less on gut feel, but who knows? "Philosophical differences", the Cardinals said.

The Cardinals had a heck of a season to get to the Wild Card game and managed to play the Dodgers even until the bottom of the ninth. Sadly, that was as much as they could manage.

All things considered, I'm pretty happy with their season. :)

The Cardinals won their 17th game in a row today, beating the Brewers and clinching the second wild card slot.

Wow! I am happily surprised.

As is my habit (all things being equal), I went down to Wrigley Field for the last home game of the Cubs season. Much to my surprise, I was in a position where I might have the chance to see the Cardinals clinch at least a tie for the second wild card slot, which I had not expected two weeks ago.

Went with Sam to my second Cubs game of the season tonight. A disturbing trend from earlier seasons has resurfaced. When I go to a Cubs game, the only team they can beat is the Cardinals.

This is admittedly a small sample size for this season...

We arrived at our softball practice field this morning to discover that it was filled with men playing cricket. We have no idea if they actually booked our field out from under us with the Park District, but since the opposite field was unoccupied, we figured we'd go there. The Cards beat the Padres today in game 1 of their 3 game wild-card series. They frequently made me very nervous while doing so, but they won.

For the most part, it was not an unusual Sunday here. I did pull out the sawzall and the pruning blade and remove three dead limbs from the trees in the back yard, which has been on my list of things to do for some time.

I played some guitar, which was good.
