April 2001

Excerpts from my journal (Volume 49) in April 2001...

April 4, 2001 - "There are now over 1000 confirmed cases of foot and mouth in UK farms...  About 671,000 animals have now been slaughtered and 385,000 are waiting for slaughter."

"Last weekend, Linda and I went for a drive up towards the northwest out of Dumfries.  Without warning, on a quiet country road, we came upon the horrible sight of sheep being culled.  And cattle being herded past our car for who-knows-what.  We were really upset."

April 17, 2001 - Went on "a day trip out to the Mull of Galloway in the extreme southwest of Scotland.  We were going to see the Logan Botanical gardens near Port Logan but it was closed for foot and mouth.  So was the lighthouse area at the tip of the peninsula.

Late April, 2001 - Aunt Kathy meets up with Mom and Dad in Las Vegas.  Mom and Kathy plan to rent a car and see the sights of the area while my Dad goes up to Salt Lake City to do some geneology research.

April 30, 2001 - "I went to the Clydebank Museum after work today.  I'd been wanting to go there for some time just to take a look... so I took a look.  On Friday, we went to see the Bootleg Beatles.  It was really good.  It's the 2nd year in a row that we went to see them at the Sands Centre in Carlisle."
