World Goth Day started out as a joke on the BBC in 2009 and continues as a bit of fun. More importantly, World Goth Day events and activities raise money for all sorts of causes worldwide. Four years ago today, a 20 year old girl called Sophie Lancaster died due to injuries received from a beating 13 days before.

Her only crime was daring to look different.

RIP Sophie, you will never be forgotten.

In remembrance of Sophie the radio play Black Roses will be broadcast on Radio 4 today at 2:15 pm

Four years ago TODAY (11th August 2007), a girl and her boyfriend were brutally attacked in a park in Lancashire , simply for the way they looked. She died in hospital 13 days later. Three years ago on the 24th August, Sophie Lancaster lost her fight for life after having been severely beaten for merely daring to look different. Her fiancé Rob was also critically injured in the attack and is still suffering from the after affects today.
