I brought home Nicky today. When I went to pick her up at the other rescue volunteers' house, she stepped right up onto my hand and then sat on my shoulder the whole time I was at the folk's house meeting their other birds. She was very good and never once tried to do anything bad, like biting. On the way home she sat as close to me as she could and made a little "conversation" the whole way. (She doesn't say words, just makes funny trilly little "bbbbrrrap" sounds and the occassional small squawk.) I was impressed with how well she travels in the car -- one of the least stressed birds I've ever met. Once I had her home and set up with cage and stand and playpen she mainly stayed "indoors" and played with her toys instead of exploring, even though her door was open until bedtime. I was worried that she didn't eat a whole lot, and so, while she was in her cage, I handed her little bits of food, which she very politely accepted and ate right up (as long as they were the right flavour). She is a bit cage-aggressive, so to me this was a very good sign. I'm hoping that she will come out and play more as she gets used to her new location.
I am going to try to make the next adoption class and bring her with me. I think she just may be able to find a home quickly since she is so gentle and really is adorable.
