Homemade Teriyaki Sauce
Once I tasted this, I realized with a sinking heart that I could never, ever buy bottled teriyaki sauce again. It doesn't take long to make and doubles nicely. Even doubled, it pours neatly into a 12-ounce bottle. I don't think it ever really goes bad, but chances are you won't find out.

Monster's learning to be a real cat.
She's out here on the futon couch, sleeping kitty-corner from Puff (who has staked out his corner for the last few years), just a foot or so away from Adam as he's playing his mech thing on his PC. Enchilada Sauce
If my kitchen weren't such a disaster area, I'd take a picture, but really, it's enchilada sauce. What else do you need to know? It's a rich ruddy-orange color, thick and spicy, and crazy easy to make at home. I had to learn on the fly today because I'm making a casserole with the rest of the tortillas I made yesterday. Either it's mean or it's arbitrary, and either way, it gives me the heebie-jeebies.
The kittens all died in the night. The mother cat didn't really know what she was doing, and she bred way too young. There way too many of them to begin with for a new mother--of 6, 3 died on birth, leaving 3 that were thumb-sized and way too small and underdeveloped. The last one made it halfway to the vet. I am apparently getting a kitten.
It is a newborn smoky-grey kitten, at the time of this writing about 3 days old. I don't know its gender yet. The mother cat apparently had an Immaculate Conception--she is one of three FEMALE cats owned by this person, all are indoor only with no access to the outdoors and the owner's checked for broken screens and the like--no way she's found for ( Read more... ) -

I have this weird early-onset osteoarthritis that is especially pronounced in my lower back and my right shoulder. So if I'm here and typing, I'm on Class 2 narcotics. Just take that as read. The painkillers and a variety of other meds keep me vaguely functional. But if I'm having what my specialist rather optimistically calls "a bad day," it hurts ( Read more... )
