Thanksgiving rocked. We're still eating leftovers, which is fine. I had turkey for the first time in years and I have been putting myself into a turkey coma every day since Thursday. I went nuts and did the whole shebang with homemade Tuscan bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, greenery, salad, and a delicately subtle cornmeal-apple cake that makes a fitting end for a rich meal. I'll make gravy again today, but otherwise we're set for a few more days food-wise from that one meal. I'm very thankful we could afford a nice dinner like this one. I vaguely remember being annoyed with leftovers, but that was before I was too broke to have a nice Thanksgiving. This time around every bite of warmed-up turkey is a pleasure. Hunger makes the best sauce, indeed.
Back still hurts, but I'm all right. I just moved and have a rather nice apartment now. We promptly broke the dryer--rather dramatically really, almost set the place on fire the first day we were in it thanks to a faulty bit of wiring, and holy shit it was like poltergeists were in the laundry room--so have to hang up laundry till we get another one. But at least the washer works, and I don't mind. The apartment is *huge* compared to the tiny little house.
The guy who owns that house is still higher than a Tibetan prayer kite regarding its value. We moved out leaving it in sparkling and pristine shape--even hired someone to clean it, which was wise I think as we got our entire rather large deposit back--but it needed a lot of work. The floors were all creaky and spongy, the fence needed to be entirely replaced, etc. I reckon it'd want about $10k to be really fit again. It's only worth a Zenestimate of $100k, which I understand may lowball a little, but even so, dude is asking for $120k for it with no repairs or warranty. And remember, it's a micro-house of like 800sf, so even with two tiny bedrooms, this is not a house that famblees will want at all. I think this is hilarious. It's been on the market for a month now and it doesn't look like anybody's been nibbling yet. If he'd just price it for its value, it'd move like crazy; it's got a lot of cute touches and I still miss my little jewel box of a home. But the owner is Californian and I don't think he has the faintest idea how things work here. Oh well, let him enjoy not selling the house and not having renters to have a little cashflow coming in.
